HMTV DJ Tina: Hi My Favorite Scar how are things in the Netherlands?

Hi Tina! We're doing great actually!

HMTV DJ Tina: How is the production of your new Debut Album My Favorite Scar going?

Finishing up our debutalbum as we speak. We recorded the four remaining songs last week, we're cutting the vocals now with our producer Oscar Holleman. The album will feature 11 tracks in total. Things are looking up really :)

HMTV DJ Tina: When you finish your new album do you plan on touring to promote My Favorite Scar?

Yes, definately. We love to hang in the studio and stuff, that's were the magic happens, but it's a huge kick to go out and rock the hell ou of that m*********er and meet people. We’re so siked to get the word out there. We planning on taking this thing as far as we can. HMTV DJ Tina: Any video production planned for My Favorite Scar?

We actually shot a video already :) For 'Waste'. Just you wait n' see!

HMTV DJ Tina: Who are the five members and their roles in the band?

Evan - guitar2

Daan - guitar

Pat - bass

Stephen - drums

Jay - vocals

HMTV DJ Tina: What do you consider your main influences to be?

Hard to say, there's 2 kinds of music, music you like and music you dont like. The first category is of some influence I guess. It's hard to say what really sticks with you when you hear something by another band. Just cool stuff. Could be anything from bands like Killswitch Engage to the Deftones, from Alice in Chains and Linkin Park to Black Sabbath and from Apocalyptica to Tori Amos or Johnny Cash, and back. And all inbetween.

I dont even really know what the other guys listen to. We just get together and do the job and when we all like the song we keep it, otherwise we toss it out of the window.

To us it's the feel that counts. Music must be heartfelt, you got to be real about it. Everything we write about is from the heart because we experienced it ourselves.

HMTV DJ Tina: How did you meet producer Oscar Holleman?

Our bassplayer Pat knew him already and hooked us up. He played a few of our songs to him and Oscar got interested somehow. And now we're almost family, us and him. He knows exactly what MFS is all about, he's the 6th member and we all adore him.

HMTV DJ Tina: Can you tell us some of the highlights about your current album that the fans can expect? It's going to be a very dark, dynamic, sexy, melancholic and modern heavy rock album. It'll feature 11 chapters in the form of 11 songs; 11 tracks with their own atmosphere and feel. They all kick ass though! Haha.

HMTV DJ Tina: Who writes your songs?

Evan comes up with 99% of all the riffs. Most of the time we just start out with a jam around a riff and built it up from there. Everyone contributes in their own way.

HMTV DJ Tina: Can you elaborate on how the song track “My Favorite Scar” concerns the death of the mother of 2 band members?

Ehhmm yeah. Evan and I (Jay) are actually brothers. Few may know that. Our mother died years ago, which made an undescribable impact on us both. So we wrote a song about it. It was not an easy thing though. Not mentally nor lyricwise. It’s a song about loss. How do you put years of grief and sadness into a song...? But we somehow managed to pull it off. It has become one of the most compelling songs on the record, very atmospheric and melancholic I think. It's strange to hear it now, it's hard to keep a distance.

HMTV DJ Tina: Does the band have any spiritual influences in their music?

Hmmmm. Well, I dont want to sound corny, but this band is our religion if that’s the right word anyway. We connect on a spritual level when we play. We've been in all kinds of bands before, but this is different. We are focused to the core. There are no guarantees in life, just that you have to get out there and do whatever the hell it is that you wanna do. And this band is total freedom to us. It's more than 5 bandmembers and a producer. We're a gang, a tribe.

HMTV DJ Tina: What is the most intellectually challenging thing the band looks for when producing their music?

To us it's more about feel than it is about intellect. It should feel right. It should come from the heart. It's raw power and emotion. Me personally I just let everything go. Because everything you know is useless. Creativity is a well that gives and takes. Its a balance thing. You have to give yourself to get something out.

HMTV DJ Tina: What is the bands alibi or technique for putting melody to their lyrical content?

When the guys play the piece, I try to concentrate on what comes to mind and how it makes me feel. When the riff makes sense the vocal line comes very natural. Then the shaping of the melody starts and alongside I try to fit in whatever I want to say, lyricwise I mean. The lyrics and the music should be one, they are entwined – on both subject and atmosphere or sound. We have no formula though, we try to put something new and exiting into every song we write. I think we have our own specific style somehow, but still we dont want to repeat ourselves. It's challenging and very rewarding when it works out and very frustrating and disappointing when it doesnt. Again, it's a team effort of the band and Oscar’s. He plays a big part in this.

HMTV DJ Tina: What is My Favorite Scars criterion for a well mixed or engineered song?

It should kick ass, on whatever level. Whether it's a heavy song or not doesnt matter, it has to make sense in every way. We are very ambitious and precise when it comes to mixing and producing the songs, Oscar is. Without losing any spontaneity. We want the production the be as coherent and layered as we can. It's the vehicle that carries the songs.

HMTV DJ Tina: Has the band performed any live shows?

Nope, not yet. We want to go all out when the record s released. We plan on doing a few try outs here and there and and hope to tour as much as possible.

HMTV DJ Tina: How do you like our music site at Hollywood Music TV?

It's fucking great! Haha. No seriously, we think it's really cool that you people put so much time and effort into discovering and promoting new and exiting bands. Thats passion on the same level as the musicians that are in these bands. So we're very grateful for the exposure we get! It's great for people to find out about new bands that way. You guys got great bands featured on your site and it's very professional. Like I said, we love it.

HMTV DJ Tina: What do you think of the music industry today and what would you like to see change?

Let me say this. When you're about the music like we are you dont really think about sales or something. You just give it your best shot and do whatever you feel is cool. Like I said before, this thing is serious for us. We've come a long way. We're ambitious and of course we hope to take it as far as possible. I think it's a great thing that there are so many bands, styles and labels out there for people to choose from nowadays. We'll have to wait and see which way the industry will take, if there's a choice ;) i think there will always be a time for exiting music, people will always be passionate about new bands and music. We'll just have to wait and see.

HMTV DJ Tina: Any shout outs or last words?
