Hollywood Music TV Canada Tina has been given the fantastic opportunity to interview VM Underground’s Northwest Phantom Hunters for our Online VMU Eteam Webzine and Hollywood Music TV Canada Ezine.
First of all check out their main page at: www.vmueteam.com/NorthwestPhantomHunters.html great pod cast is up of while they were on an actual paranormal investigation.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 1. Hi Northwest Phantom Hunters I don’t know a lot about Paranormal Investigation but what you are doing is definitely interesting. Do you believe in ghost and if so what is your theory behind the science of how they work?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: Well it depends on what your definition of ghosts are? Obviously I believe in a Spirit realm or I would not be a “Ghost Hunter.” To put it more clearly, we more than believe, we know and have captured phenomenal evidence that does indicate and prove without a doubt that there are spirits among us. And they can affect us in a variety of ways. As far as how they work, there are many different theories out there on how “Ghosts, Spirits, Entities, or whatever the individual may call them,” work. And that’s what makes this so hard to study and come up with a true scientific explanation. It seems like all or most theories out there on the Paranormal are based on little or no actual proof or capture. And because of that reason I believe that we are different from any other team, group, or organization that has ever attempted to document or investigate and come up with true answers regarding the paranormal phenomena, such as: “Why hauntings occur? Are spirits harmless? Can they hurt us? Are there different types of hauntings? And the ultimate question of all, what happens when we die?” Of course I believe that no one may ever answer some of these questions, but I truly believe that what we have documented and captured can truthfully answer some of these questions. Back to the theory of how they work, the world of science has tried to study the paranormal, but only made it so far because the world of science and the people who use it to study can only go as far as science will allow and explain. So naturally when science could not explain certain phenomena involving the paranormal, like objects moving on their own, EVP of voices that can answer questions, state names, reveal personal information about an individual, the phenomena seems to be a reflection of an individual with a personality and a mind of its own. Also unknown matter that seems to appear out of nowhere but has no scientific explanation, often called ecto-mist and/or ecto-plasm, often taking the shape of something or someone. This unexplained matter has been directly linked to paranormal activity. So in order to answer the question on how ghosts work, in my opinion, using a combination of both science and a rational mind and applying that to the evidence captured is the only way to explain how ghosts work. So how we believe that they work, well everything in the world according to science is energy and this would also apply to that of the spirit realm. So when a spirit manifests in a way that it can affect physical objects or us it takes energy, a great deal of it. Because we have witnessed and documented events that have occurred while a spirit was present. For example like the brand new batteries in our cameras dying and the environment around us becoming unnaturally cold and dense as if the energy was being sucked from the environment. And the cold spots seem to be concentrated in a small area that seemed to circulate about of their own accord, leaving it bitterly cold no more than a few inches in front of you and a pleasant warm temperature where you were standing and this drastic temperature change could only be explained by some unknown force drawing energy form everything around it to a specific and isolated location. So they can use this energy to manipulate the environment around them, such as banging on solid objects, moving or the throwing of objects releasing this energy. And we have witnessed objects moving or being thrown during multiple investigations and the objects seem to be moved or thrown with a great deal of force beyond human capability. Ghosts or Spirits can also manipulate sound as well, through means of EVP, (electronic voice phenomena), this is voice that most always cannot be heard by the human ear, but can be picked up and recorded by most any audio recording device such as a digital recorder. Also on more rare occasions a very clear and easily heard voice can occur. This is referred to as a disembodied voice. We have captured evidence on multiple occasions of this phenomenon. Also spirits seem to be able to perform tricks when it comes to using sound, such as mimicking the sound of footsteps, rustling, and even what appears to be the sounds of animals. All in all it seems to be nothing more than a supernatural trick.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 2. What is the biggest myth about ghost that people should know can you define what a ghost, spirit or poltergeist is?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: I would have to say that one myth when it comes to identifying real or true paranormal activity is a lot of people have an overactive imagination meaning they like to link everything they don’t understand at the time to paranormal activity. When, in fact most of these events can be easily explained. In this way, people categorize dreams, objects being found in strange places such as coins that the individual most likely placed there and forgot. This also applies to windows or doors being left open by an individual but assumed to be the action of a supernatural presence. Not dismissing that some of these occurrences could not be linked to a spirit unless these occurrences repeat for instance, a door or cupboard is open often and there is no physical explanation, therefore people should be aware that not every unexplained event is paranormal. And this also applies to unexplained phenomena in photographs. We have viewed countless photographs from numerous paranormal investigators that feel they have captured something paranormal when in reality the phenomena can be easily explained. Such as capturing pollen or dust particles giving the illusion of orbs, or objects in the background that appear to be that of a figure or street lights that in a photograph taken while a camera is in motion can appear as a long squiggle that most investigators perceive as a vortex. But the biggest myth, I would have to say, is that a ghost or poltergeist is harmless. In fact these entities can be very dangerous.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 3. What are a residual haunting, an ecto-mist, and a portal?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: A Residual haunting is thought by some to be a replayed haunting in which no intelligent ghost, spirit, or other entity is directly involved. Much like a video tape, residual haunts are playbacks of auditory, visual, olfactory, and other sensory phenomenon which are attributed to a traumatic event, life-altering event, or a common event of a person or place, like an echo of past events. This is the definition given in any dictionary of what a residual haunting is. It is theories like this that make us different than any other team of paranormal investigators out there. Because this is only a theory and in our opinion, not based on any solid evidence we have never encountered anything that gives us the belief that a phenomena such as a residual haunting actually exists. Even investigating cases where certain actions and events occurred at the same time every night the presence was not unaware of its environment or us and when provoked would manifest in other ways other than the events that have been considered by others to be residual, Including a disembodied voice and EVP. Portal: an opening, entrance, door, gateway, or light. The light is not visible to the human eye, except in death. This is the definition given in any dictionary. This again is something that I believe is not based on any given fact. How would anyone know that these portals or gateways exist when theoretically they are said to only be visual in death. And there are other theories that these gateways are an isolated location where spirits can not only exit but may enter our world. We have never documented or captured any evidence that would suggest the existence of a portal. For instance, we have learned that a spirit when contacted or attempted to be contacted will respond and can manifest anywhere. NOTE: We the “Northwest Phantom Hunters” do not and will not use certain methods of spirit communication for this very reason. We also feel that it is very dangerous. Ecto Mist: A misty or cloudy substance that had been recorded on film. It often has the appearance of fog and may not have been visible to the eyes. source: Donald Michael Kraig
Also this vaporous mist as documented throughout history is said to appear during spiritualistic rituals such as séances conducted by gypsies and other mediums. The mist is said to take the form or resemblance of the individual that it they are attempting to contact. We have captured photographs of ectomist on many occasions and it usually always contains a shocking image within it.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 4. What is a vortex? Do they occur in certain places or so they move appear and disappear?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: There are a few natural vortexes in the world today. I have been to 2 that are close to where I live. There is one located in Oregon. Here is the scientific explanation after a study on known vortexes. Many of the "paranormal events" based on visual information are well known optical illusions. The most famous illusion involves two people changing in relative heights depending on where they stand. This effect may be due to a distorted background which results in a forced perspective. It can be replicated with an Ames Room. Also this is the definition as defined in any common dictionary: A spiral motion of fluid within a limited area, especially a whirling mass of water or air that sucks everything near it toward its center. The occurrences of vortexes directly related to paranormal phenomena, we have never captured or documented any evidence suggesting that they actually exist. So we believe that this is one more theory that has been accepted as fact when it comes to the world of paranormal.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 5. Have you ever felt threatened or harmed by a ghost or been in a situation that frightened you or left you feeling uneasy?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: Yes actually we have. The one that sticks out most in my mind is the investigation that we did in a turn of the century library. Because for months I had worked there with Chad and he kept saying this Library is haunted and I thought, “ Oh yeah, whatever, you guys are just messing with me.” And that was because nothing ever happened. Until one day we were in there cleaning and this huge book on Astrology just leaps off of the metal book cart that it was on and smacks Chad square in the middle of the back right in front of me. And even then I was like ok, but nothing really had happened so far that scared me or made me feel uneasy, until the night we decided to bring in the members of our ghost hunting team at that particular time to do an actual investigation…well, wait let me back up just a little bit…a few nights before our actual investigation….a few things started to happen, for example the computers would turn on by themselves…you know, just little stuff, nothing scary yet… Well the night before our investigation, I had gone upstairs just like I had always done to clean the second floor. Well right away I just didn’t feel right. And not like the somebody’s watching me thing. It was a little different, more like an uneasy feeling. Well I went ahead and started to do my job and what really creeped me out is the double pained windows rattled really loud. And I don’t understand how because they are so thick you would literally have to physically shake them yourself. But that’s not all that happened. .I looked towards the windows after the rattle and in the corner where the windows met I thought that I saw someone or something crouching down there. I even did a double take to be sure, but the second time I looked it was gone. But I also heard a cat meow, which that would be impossible since there is no way animal or man could access the part where I was without a ladder. This was my very first memorable and uneasy feeling as a ghost hunter. Actually it was my first real experience with the paranormal in a more physical sense. I didn’t really feel scared, but I felt like I didn’t want to be or shouldn’t be up there by myself and as I was going to get in the elevator to go get Chad as he was coming up. Coincidence, maybe? But it wasn’t too many days before this happened that he was telling me that something big was coming up!! And then when we did our investigation, things really hit the fan! I have not had another experience yet that was anything like this one!! We had some other members at that time that were with us and for the most part of the night it didn’t seem like we were going to get anything, but when it happened, it happened all at once!! First of all, the orb activity started to massively increase, (In our opinion orbs aren’t really linked to paranormal activity, they are truly just balls of energy), but on occasion we have had an increase in there presence just before a manifestation has occurred. Anyway, we were getting ready to rap things up when the real activity started!! We knew it was going to happen just by the change in how the surroundings felt and Chad actually heard a whisper and directly after we heard the whisper a chair slid…(You really would have to view the video from it) I know it sounds unbelievable and I wouldn’t have believed it myself if I hadn’t been there. But right after we heard the chair we all knew it was time to go! We could even see chairs moving and being thrown as we were leaving. When we got home the EVP that we had gotten was just Phenomenal. What the entity or spirit had said was, “I’m pissed at you now, leave or I will break you all!” That was the all time most uncomfortable feeling of any investigation that I personally have ever felt.
Chad speaking: Yes, I have to agree with what Mel has stated. The investigation in the library was to date the most hostile entity that we have dealt with. There have been other investigations where the entity manifested its power by throwing objects. One particular time we were investigating a turn of the century cemetery and one of the team members took dead batteries out of an audio recording device and went to toss them on the ground a few feet in front of him but instead of them hitting the ground something caught them in mid-air and with incredible force threw them up through some trees that stood approximately 100 feet tall. The batteries sounded like a machine gun going off as they ricocheted and bounced up through the branches even the sound of large branches being broken could be heard. Events like these are good evidence in support of the fact that spirits are not harmless.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 6. According to your biography Northwest Phantom Hunters have been labeled as a “conjure or someone who taunts the spirit realm” can you elaborate on this?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: We have in the past been labeled incorrectly as a Conjure which in fact is in correct, we do not nor have we ever conjured. This is the definition of a Conjure as found in any common dictionary is: To summon (a devil or spirit) by magical or supernatural power. We use taunting. This is the actual definition as it appears in the dictionary: Taunt: To reproach in a mocking, insulting, or contemptuous manner or to drive or incite (a person) by taunting.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 7. Your methods of conducting an investigation are different but controversial, what do you do on these hunts?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: This is the reason we are considered controversial. Most paranormal teams disagree with the fact that we use verbal insults and verbally harass the spirit until we get a reaction. In my opinion, other teams look down upon us only because we have the “guts” to resort to this method. It is considered to be dangerous, but this is how I view it, we are out there to get results and to capture spirit activity with the intentions of proving the existence of the paranormal. There is no better way to get a reaction from someone or something than to taunt or insult it. Because of that we have captured a lot of phenomenal evidence that is unlike any other evidence out there. Also the footage we have captured is considered to be frightening, shocking, and above all controversial. This is all I have to say to the other teams that are offended by our methods of investigating, we are true paranormal investigators and we are taking what we do very seriously and in my opinion, most if not every team out there is only going along with the recent “fad” sparked by “Hollywood Ghost Hunters.” Which these celebrities do not portray the field of paranormal investigation properly nor do they portray the paranormal properly. Including the seriousness and the dangers that are involved and because of that I feel that this game of playing “Ghost Hunter” that so many people are doing. This is what we feel is dangerous. There is something that goes bump in the night and from what we have documented it is not nice and does not have the disposition that it may appear to have.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 8. Of all your investigations concerning ghosts and haunting, which cases stands out in your mind, which did you find the most interesting?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Chad speaking: We have had a lot of very interesting cases and experiences with the paranormal. The investigation that we spoke of above regarding the library was one of the interesting and most shocking that we have been on. But the one that we find the most interesting is a case that we have been investigating for a long time and still are. Thee events that make this case the most interesting is that we have gotten such a wide range of paranormal activity here. Everything from hostile threats captured on EVP, such as for us to “Get out now”, my name being called, along with a voice threatening to ”Haunt my dreams”, verbal cussing towards various team members, also strange audio such as a very loud heartbeat is picked up. This heartbeat seems to speed up when we taunt or anger whatever is there. Stomping and growling is also heard. In other locations we have also picked up these Phenomenon’s, but in this particular location we have also seen and captured on video full body apparitions. Along with these apparitions on rare occasions there is a chemical odor that can be smelt. We have also detected a humorous aspect here. EVP of an entity mocking us, even repeating statements we have said at times, but in a humorous way. The most outstanding phenomena that exists here is what appears to be the spirit of a little girl. On multiple occasions we have picked up on audio of a little girl’s voice saying: ”Who killed me?, Help me, please, Hey, or Excuse me” indicating that the apparition is trying to get our attention. We have even captured a full body apparition that appears to be that of a little girl. All of these captures are very good paranormal evidence, but we do have one piece of evidence captured here that is beyond good it is shocking. A voice picked up on EVP telling us to “Find him” then states a name. It is very clear and understandable. We cannot state this person’s name for they are alive. But this person happens to be a coroner that specializes in the aide of identifying bodies that are otherwise unidentifiable. And to make this even more shocking he is located in the same town as this location. We have picked up this name many times on multiple investigations. We have never contact the individual of whom we speak.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 9. In your experience what is the dominant emotion expressed by most ghosts?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: In my opinion, the most dominant emotion that we have encountered starts out at what appears to be that of something harmless or even friendly. But we have found that the more we investigate the entity or spirit that we are dealing with turns hostile and threatening. Most often when beginning an investigation we were given the impression that this spirit or entity is that of a lost soul or even a dead relative. But when taunted or angered the true colors and personalities of these poltergeists seem to eventually be drawn out. Therefore in our opinion, the Perception that people are led to believe is that what they are dealing with is that of a dead relative or the spirit of a human is not true. What are these paranormal entities? That I believe is the question that most paranormal investigators should be trying to answer rather than going along with what the world has been taught to believe and that is that these spirits or entities are lost souls or a dead relative trying to contact them.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 10. Have you ever used a medium in your investigations?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: We do not ever use mediums or any kind of device to directly contact the paranormal. In our experiences, we do not believe that this is a good idea. Nor do we believe that a person should try to develop a personal relationship or interest in the paranormal. From our own experiences and from research as well, we have found that direct contact or contact on a personal level has led to nothing but bad things happening to the individual which has done so. Therefore we taunt or what I like to call it is tease or poke fun of the entity just to get a response. But we are always on guard and wary of our surroundings and we know when it’s time to go and not push our luck any further!
HMTV Canada-Tina: 11. How many investigations have you been on?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: We have been on way too many to keep track of.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 12. What equipment is necessary for your paranormal investigations?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel and Chad speaking: Due to lack of funding, our team uses very little hi-tech equipment. The only things that we take out are a 5 mega pixel digital camera, a Sony camcorder, and an audio recording device. We also bring a digital thermometer to monitor the differences in the change of the temperature.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 13. What are the boundaries and the rules that have to be followed in Northwest Phantom Hunters to keep everyone safe?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: We do not allow or recommend that anyone go off alone. We leave the taunting or teasing up to Chad and do not recommend that inexperienced ghost hunters try it. There are certain things that you can say to provoke an entity or spirit without ever getting on a personal level with it. We are strongly against direct contact or asking personal questions. For example: “What is your name? Who are you?. In every case that we have researched or personally experienced, trying to be at a personal level with the paranormal has not resulted in favorable things happening. Bringing yourself to a personal level or directly contacting can and usually does set you up for bad things to happen. And contrary to what most people believe, we do not perceive these as being: ”Casper the friendly ghost or the spirit of a dead relative.” They always start out misleading and when it gets right down to it, they are not very nice! This is based on our personal experiences with the paranormal. It has nothing to do with religion or opinion or personal upbringing.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 14. What are Northwest Phantom Hunters rules of how they taunt a spirit or entity?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: As explained in the question above, we are against the asking of anything that is considered a personal question.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 15. Are paranormal investigations becoming more popular today?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: Yes, we believe that they are, but a lot of teams go about it the wrong way, in our opinion. We are trying to base our findings on a more scientific level and from what we have personally experienced rather than religion, opinion, and/or personal upbringing.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 16. What advice would you give to those Paranormal Investigators starting out in the field?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: The only advice that we can say is be careful and please do your research before you attempt any kind of a paranormal investigation. You have to know your limits and you absolutely have to know when your welcome is worn out and it is time to go. We do not recommend that anyone participate in the direct contacting of spirits, perform or participate in any spiritualistic rituals. For example: The use of Ouija boards, séances, or anything pertaining to that sort of thing.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 17. Is there anything they should be careful about in terms of psychic protection when going on a paranormal investigation in a place that is reputedly haunted?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
Mel speaking: As we have stated many times before, we do not believe in the use of Mediums or anything/anyone of that nature. We have researched and have read about documented paranormal cases where whenever a spirit medium, psychic, or spiritualistic ritual has been brought into the case, it seems as though the spirit or entity in which they are dealing with often becomes more hostile and in most cases resulting in bodily harm of the individual which was experiencing the paranormal event in the first place. It is not the Medium that is affected, but in every case that we have read about, every factual case that is, it is always the person experiencing the haunting or paranormal event that faces the consequences. And these are often unfavorable and result in the person getting scratched or seeming to be going out of their mind from being harassed.
HMTV Canada-Tina: 18. Before our interview comes to a close is there any shout outs to anyone any last words?
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
From the whole team: You’re very welcome and we would like to say thank you to Vic at the VM Underground Internet Radio Show and also to you Tina, the VMU Eteam and everyone at HMTV Canada for all of your support and publicity. Also we would like to say thanks for the wonderful web page. And to our fans and family members for their support and encouragement to keep doing what we are doing.
Thank you Northwest Phantom Hunter for the opportunity to interview your team, we look forward to hearing more of your Paranormal Activity on The VM Underground Internet Radio Show.
VMU Northwest Phantom Hunters:
The final thing that we would like to add is that, we are aware that there are an abundance of paranormal teams out there, but we believe that upon viewing the evidence that we have personally experienced, captured and documented everyone can rest assured that we are the real deal. We solely base our answers on the facts and findings that we have experienced ourselves. Although we do research theories and other’s opinions of what they perceive to be paranormal we do not incorporate these theories or concepts into what we believe to be paranormal unless we have an actual documentation pertaining to that particular theory. Once again THANK YOU to everyone that is making it possible for us to finally let the world see what we have.
